There is a $1,200 limit that applies to contributions from individuals to an individual council candidate. If you make more than 1 contribution (e.g. contribute money, contribute goods, or purchase a ticket to a fundraising event), the total value of all the contributions cannot exceed $1,200. The maximum total amount that you can give to multiple candidates in the same jurisdiction (i.e. running for Council in the same municipality) is $5,000. Contribution receipts are not tax receipts. Contributions to municipal campaigns cannot be credited against provincial or federal income taxes. The City of Toronto has a cash rebate program for eligible contributions. Only Ontario residents may contribute. Contributions from corporate and union donors cannot be accepted.
